About the single
SweeTeez’s 54th digital single, “Blue Hour,” captures the fleeting moment just before sunset when the whole world turns blue.
The title track “Blue Hour” portrays the languid flutter of a summer evening as the sunset spreads across the sky. Lush synth pads stretch wide over the syncopated kicks of a 140 BPM Jersey club groove, while the five members’ airy vocals drift above. Singing of time frozen at a distance where “fingertips almost, but not quite, touch,” the lyrics flow into the understated chant hook “du-du-du, blue hour” — lingering in the listener’s heart by seeping in softly rather than bursting out.
B-side “Heart Pop” depicts the moment you hold your breath, afraid your feelings will give you away. Over a light 130 BPM 2-step bounce and cozy synth pads, the urge to look anywhere else while “sitting side by side on the sand, shoulders lightly touching” is expressed through a hook that sounds just like a heartbeat: “ba-dum, again and again, ba-dum.” The song’s greatest charm lies in the lovable repetition created by its whispery, relaxed talk-singing delivery and the “doo-doo-doo, ba-dum” post-chorus.
The stillness of a blue evening and the pounding of a racing heart. The two faces of summer drawn side by side in these two songs will leave a lasting afterimage with listeners.
