About the single
SweeTeez’s 57th digital single, “Oligo Pop,” stretches the fizzy thrill of a single sip of soda across an entire song.
The title track “Oligo Pop” never lets up for a single moment, from the first beat to the last. Over 140 BPM Y2K future bass with a hyperpop edge, bone-dry vocals stripped entirely of reverb sit right up against your ear, trading off bar by bar without pause. Cold, crystalline synth stabs land on every offbeat, and a live-sung staccato “tok” bursts out locked precisely to the beat cuts. The chorus, “Tension up and up, can't stop, one more,” carries an addictive pull that will stay in your head all day after a single listen.
B-side “Pop Like This” assembles the same hook in an entirely different way. Over bright 148 BPM hyperpop idol dance-pop, a stop-time structure in which the whole band cuts out together on every “pop-pop-pop-pop” in the chorus delivers an intense thrill. The classic J-pop “royal road” chord progression of IV-V-iii-vi lends the song an elegant emotional arc, and a high-note climax in the final chorus brings it to a dazzling close.
Sharing lyrics that run “Apple cherry, tok-tok cherry, strawberry vanilla” along with the “oligo” hook, the two songs capture SweeTeez at their most playful and their fastest.
